2017-2018 Season

NEW WORKS CONCERT - OCTOBER 8, 2016 7:30 PM Mitby Theater - 3550 Anderson ST - Madison College
Serving as Dance Wisconsin’s season opener, New Works highlights innovative original choreography while showcasing classic works too. Pieces premiering at this event have earned regional and national acclaim for choreography, lighting, and costuming.  This year's theme is PORTRAITS OF STRENTH and a special focus placed on empowering women.  All the choreographers this year are women.  It is an exciting time for women in dance.
Dance Wisconsin presents "PORTRAITS OF STRENGTH"
Celebrating women choreogrpahers and Aurora's Wedding
Join Dance Wisconsin for a choreographer's showcase that examines the strength of women.  All original new works are choreographed by women.  The pieces grapple with how women empower themselves either as an expectant choreographer working with water to an all female ensemble whose dance tells the story of overthrowing evil with female power.  You will be entertained!  On a lighter note love will be celebrated as Act III of The Sleeping Beauty is brought to the stage by the Dance Wisconsin Company and special guests the MAD City Dancers.  Based upon the original choreography of Marius Petipa, see the wedding of Princess Aurora to Prince Desire as attending by the Jewel Fairies and blessed by the Lilac Fairy.  While princesses and fairies are not often thought of as powerful.  The strength of the female dancer dancing difficult variations is empowering and uplifting.
