Who is Dance Wisconsin?

You've heard our name many times and get the general impression that Dance Wisconsin is a non-profit organization that promotes excellence in the art of dance. First, we are the sponsors of high-quality productions featuring dancers from all over Southern Wisconsin. These productions not only offer the opportunity for young people to explore new heights, but also to learn teamwork, commitment and the sense of pride in accomplishing something truly extraordinary.

But, there is more. Dance Wisconsin opens the door for youngsters who may never have the opportunity to learn about dance. As artistic director, Jo Jean Retrum has devoted herself to a program called "Dance in the Schools". She offers summer classes to some of the children from the schools where she taught last year. These include Mendota, Lowell, Marquette and Glendale.

In addition, we sponsor a pre-professional, regional dance company for those who are willing to devote their time and energy to perfecting the art. This provides the vehicle for young dancers who want to go beyond their studio dance companies. These dancers want to be pushed to the limit, to excel and to reach their dream of being the best possible. Dance Wisconsin is there to make it happen.

So, you see we are more than just a dance group. We are people who are making a difference. It's a big commitment. The more support we have, the bigger impact we can make in giving our young people the opportunity to follow their dreams.
